The Will Ferrell/John C. Reilly comedy has a good pedigree. Written by Adam McKay and Ferrell whom collaborated on Anchorman and Talladega Nights, two very funny flicks, its an … unusual movie.
It does have definate LOL scenes:
“You won’t sink cause my dick floats”
The acting quality is so good it actually hurts the humor. How? Two forty year old retards that behave like nerdy pre-teens is a discordant note that gets held too long. The father that wants to kick these bastards out of the house is the most sympathetic too me. I never once felt sorry for these spoiled man-children.
Unlike their previous works, there’s too much focus on the stars, and though they’re good at improv it just wears thin quick. A good support cast is essential. Talladega and Anchorman both had them. This had the crazy nympho sister-in-law Alice and Daily Show’s Rob Riggle, but she wasn’t well developed and Rob was sore underused.
Still, I laughed heartily a few times so we’ll just call it a weird comedy.
