The new Mariah Carey single Obsessed video was just released. Saw it. Heard it. The music itself is nothing innovative or even really catchy but will no doubt be bumped by all the thirty-something rich girls and twenty-something gays that I guess make up her fan base.
This isn’t what’s bothering me though.
She still looks good, with a cosmetics team who wouldn’t. I’ll assume she’s hot enough since she got Nick Cannon to marry her and there’s no evidence of an Oedipal complex from his past girlfriends, including Selita Ebanks:
I’d propose to that. If she says no, Mariah’s not a bad consolation prize. You don’t want kids; she’s near menopause - it works out nice.
Here’s the issue.
Yeah in the video, which isn’t embedable from Youtube yet, she’s dressed like Eminem - like he often dresses like celebrities he’s joking on. He’s a drugged up pop culture jester when not rhyming about serial murder. Is this diva like behavior - to put hatred into your art?
It’s well established in rap where the battle let you duel without actual guns. I remember when Cool Moe D battled LL Cool J. I recall Nas vs Jay-Z - though it was nowhere near as bloody as Nas vs. Kelis. Never thought these were inspired by the seventies battle of Diana Ross schoolin’ Donna Summer.

Writing a song about someone obsessed with you and making it your first single is a sure way to get more attention from that person. You’ve entered a dialogue with them and even dressed up like them. Doesn’t your glamourous image preclude you - “stop” is what that “preclude” word means, baby - from sinking to this rapper’s gritty level?
Guess not.
